One of the themes that surprised me when I went back to watch Soap was that of Burt’s consistent wrestling with his own sanity. It manifested itself in wonderfully silly things like his insistence that he could make himself invisible, but it would only get worse as the series progressed. (In the Soap bible, there was also a hint – a single line, really – that suggested he had good reason to fear for his sanity.)
