While everybody on Soap had their work cut out for them from Day One, they also had the consolation of being peers tackling a common challenge, however great that challenge was. All except for Jimmy Baio.
Then just 15, Baio signed on to Soap while having to meet all of his educational requirements simultaneously, even as he performed on a stage where he was guaranteed to be the youngest person in every scene.
Though precocious for his age, he was living in a strange city (far away from his native Brooklyn), performing on a series that was the focal point of a cultural battle between the creative community and the religious right.
I had the privilege of speaking with Jimmy Baio this morning, and found him a thoroughly charming, down-to-earth fellow preparing, as we many of us are, for the next snowstorm to hit the East Coast.
