Thanks for sharing. Would be nice if someone uploaded those Comedy Central “Soap” commercials that ran circa 1993, that featured Katherine Helmond, Robert Guillaume and Jay Johnson. CC was running a laundry-related contest. 🙂
Thanks so much! Looks like one of the ads showed alternate footage of Danny crashing into the food cart at the Tates! In the aired version he scoops some of it up.
Yes Kyle, I think you can begin to see why trying to sort out what can be considered ‘Soap’ “canon” is so difficult. If anything, this becomes next to impossible with Season 4.
Sorry for the geekspeak, Becky. “Canon” is basically whatever should be considered part of the official series-wide story of “Soap.” As an extreme example, few would consider “Soap” stories written by fans to be “Soap” canon. TV/comic book fans can go on for hours about things like this.
Ahhh, Tuesday nigts on ABC! One of the best lineups in TV history. I sure wish the networks could have left them intact for more than one season. Thanks for the clip!
I wish there was, Becky. Suffice it to say that when there is, you won’t be able to visit this site without it slapping you in the face like a cold fish!
It was shown during SOAP’s ORIGINAL run on ABC; And during it’s SYNDICATED and Comedy Central airings. This logo is not on the SOAP VHS’s or DVD’s. SOAP currently airs on Antenna TV [Check your local listings.] The classic Sony/Columbia logo has been replaced with the current Sony distribution logo.
I thought this would be a great time to bring this clip over here. I hope you all enjoy it.
That logo is very familiar to me from Soap’s syndicated run, but I don’t think it was on the original ABC run. They sold it to Columbia for syndication. Nice try, Becky, you Sony stockholder!
I’m not a Sony stockholder. 😦 I just remembered it because of the logo on the bottom of the poster. I thought it ran during the ABC run. My mistake. 😦
All in good fun, Becky. That ad was for stations to pick up the syndicated reruns after it left ABC. I guess when it was on ABC it was just owned by Witt/Thomas/Harris.
Catherine Damon CLASSIC clip: Here is the NBC ORIGINAL commercial for Catherine’s 1979 made- for- TV movie: Friendships, Secrets and Lies which also featured Catherine’s good friend and M*A*S*H* alumni Loretta Swit.
I knew you would like it Aaron considering the fact that one of the Catherine articles talked about this film and Catherine’s friendship with Loretta Swit.
Hi Becky. Sorry those got pulled — this copyright nonsense is really getting out of hand when they resort to pulling commercials for their shows… By the way, I’m going to remove some of these videos from this page because it’s becoming too hard to navigate: I just spent 10 minutes trying to comment on this post because my connection can’t handle them all. (#@# highspeed Internet my foot…)

The best part was the prize was something like $1,000 in quarters (to do your laundry….)
What is Soap “Canon” Aaron?
Sorry for the geekspeak, Becky. “Canon” is basically whatever should be considered part of the official series-wide story of “Soap.” As an extreme example, few would consider “Soap” stories written by fans to be “Soap” canon. TV/comic book fans can go on for hours about things like this.
A RARE 1975 Promo for FAY: Starring: Lee Grant [The Oscar Winning Actress and MOTHER of SOAP’s Dinah Manoff (Elaine)]
Richard Mulligan’s [Burt Campbell’s] 1973 Commercial for Clairol’s® Loving Care Hair coloring.
Richard Mulligan’s [Burt Campbell’s] 1973 Commercial for Clairol’s® Loving Care Hair coloring.
Ha ha — Richard’s hair wasn’t so bad, either 🙂
No, it wasn’t Aaron. 😀
Another CLASSIC ABC SOAP Prom from 1978:
Soap clip starts :18 seconds into the video and plays all the way to the end.
Ahhh, Tuesday nigts on ABC! One of the best lineups in TV history. I sure wish the networks could have left them intact for more than one season. Thanks for the clip!
Oops. I meant PROMO. I’m sorry for the spelling mistake.
That’s it, Becky — you’re banned from the Internet for your spelling 😉 You’re in good company.
Thanks Aaron. 😀 Is there any news on WHEN the book is coming out?
I wish there was, Becky. Suffice it to say that when there is, you won’t be able to visit this site without it slapping you in the face like a cold fish!
After seeing Jeff’s SOAP Ad https://soapcompanion.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/soap_ad1.jpg it reminded me of the old Sony/Columbia LOGO that ran at THE END of each episode.

Now now, there is enough Sony stock to go around.
I’m not a Sony stockholder. 😦 I just remembered it because of the logo on the bottom of the poster. I thought it ran during the ABC run. My mistake. 😦
No worries, Becky. Jeff has a Benson-like humor, don’t you Jeff? It’s great that you’ve found all of these clips 🙂
All in good fun, Becky. That ad was for stations to pick up the syndicated reruns after it left ABC. I guess when it was on ABC it was just owned by Witt/Thomas/Harris.
Another CLASSIC SOAP Promo from 1978.
Soap clip starts :18 seconds into the video and plays all the way to the end.
Yikes, I forgot the link to the promo.
A shorter version of a previous SOAP promo from 1980.
Many thanks, Becky 🙂
Another CLASSIC SOAP Commercial from 1980. It promotes SOAP being on Late At Night on ABC and features 2 Richard Mulligan’s for the price of 1!
ENJOY!
Oops, ONLY 1 Richard. “Alien Burt” put a number on me. Sorry.
Hey, if Mary can’t tell the Burts apart, I think you can be forgiven 😉
Thanks Aaron. I just read your twitter entry 8,200 words? WOW!
Wow indeed — I can’t tell you how long I’ve struggled with that one.
Catherine Damon CLASSIC clip: Here is the NBC ORIGINAL commercial for Catherine’s 1979 made- for- TV movie: Friendships, Secrets and Lies which also featured Catherine’s good friend and M*A*S*H* alumni Loretta Swit.
That’s a nice discovery, Becky. Thank heavens for the TV pack rats out there 🙂
I knew you would like it Aaron considering the fact that one of the Catherine articles talked about this film and Catherine’s friendship with Loretta Swit.
The ABC Promo for what would be the FINAL episode of SOAP.
The clip stars at :18 seconds and runs all the way to the end.
Awesomeness — thanks, Becky 🙂
I just found out some of these videos have been deleted due to YouTube copyright laws. I am so sorry about all of this everyone.
I found another video on You Tube from 1977. It’s a FIRST LOOK at what fans were in for back in 1977 before SOAPS big premiere on ABC.
I really hope this doesn’t get deleted.

Another CLASSIC Promo from 1977.
A Promo from 1979.
The SOAP portion of the promo STARTS :16 SECONDS into the video
A SOAP Promo from COMEDY CENTRAL!
